Trump Media launches paid API for faster access to presidential posts

Resumen

Trump Media & Technology Group introduced a subscription service that provides high-speed access to the president's Truth Social posts, prompting criticism from Democrats and watchdog groups.

Trump Media & Technology Group announced a new subscription service called Truth API that delivers real-time access to the president's Truth Social posts and selected other influential accounts. The service, priced at up to $100,000 a month, is aimed at Wall Street firms seeking milliseconds-level advantage in trading based on presidential statements.

The company, in which the president holds a 41 percent stake through a revocable trust, has faced steep declines in its stock value since his return to office, partly due to losses in its cryptocurrency ventures. The launch of Truth API is presented as a revenue-generating measure for the financially struggling firm.

Senators Elizabeth Warren and Adam Schiff wrote to the Securities and Exchange Commission, calling the service “an outrageous abuse of the president’s office” and urging an investigation into possible securities-law violations. The nonpartisan group Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington described the API as “wildly unethical,” noting the difficulty of assessing its legality.

Kevin McGurn, interim chief executive of Trump Media, defended the product, stating, “I think we have a right to put it out there in the marketplace… everyone does it. It’s all in real time, so there’s no first or second for the posts.” He argued that the posts are public information and not insider material.

The White House said the president’s business interests are managed by his sons and are conducted in the nation’s best interest. Critics, including Senator Ron Wyden, argue that the service benefits the Trump family financially and gives Wall Street traders an unfair edge.

High-speed data feeds are common in finance, with platforms such as X and news agencies selling API access to reduce latency. However, the direct monetization of official presidential communications raises new ethical and regulatory questions.
