Eagles hold ninth training camp practice as receivers Darius Cooper and Jalen Hurts draw attention

Summary

Philadelphia Eagles completed their ninth camp session, featuring full pads, a competitive atmosphere and updates on injuries, quarterback competition and the emergence of receiver Darius Cooper.

Philadelphia held its ninth training-camp practice at the Jefferson Health Training Complex on a full-pads day ahead of the 2026 preseason. The session included a mix of 7-on-7 and 11-on-11 drills, with several players drawing notice for both performance and discipline.

Quarterback Jalen Hurts showed a strong start, completing a pass to Hollywood Brown on the left sideline and connecting with Elijah Moore for a potential yards-after-catch gain. He also threw an interception to Quinyon Mitchell on a later play and missed a red-zone opportunity after a delayed throw to Moore. > "Hurts clearly trusts Cooper, as evidenced by the quarterback shouting him out without even being prompted," a team observer noted.

Wide receiver Darius Cooper was highlighted for a high volume of catches, including multiple receptions in 7-on-7 and a notable over-the-shoulder grab on an out route against Riq Woolen in 11-on-11. Observers suggested his production could place him among the top three receivers on the roster.

Injury updates indicated that DeVonta Smith and rookie Makai Lemon remain out of practice, with Lemon likely missing the first preseason game. Cam Jurgens returned after leaving early due to heat-related issues, while Willie Lampkin and Johnny Wilson exited early for medical evaluation.

The backup-quarterback competition saw Tanner McKee start as the second-string option, delivering mixed results, while veteran Andy Dalton struggled with timing and accuracy. The contest for the role remains open as the preseason approaches.

Other notes from the practice included a heated 11-on-11 rep where Tyler Steen and Ty Robinson were involved in a pile-up with loud profanity, and a shove by Saquon Barkley on Andrew Mukuba after a long run. Defensive lineman Uar Bernard also displayed aggression in a bull-rush against Myles Hinton.

Special guests Michael Vick and DeSean Jackson attended the practice, preparing for an upcoming HBCU matchup at Lincoln Financial Field. The Eagles are scheduled to practice again the following morning, with head coach Vic Fangio expected to address the team beforehand.
