Eagles Day 9 practice highlights include Mitchell interception and roster moves

Summary

Philadelphia Eagles held a fully padded Day 9 practice, adding three players, placing one on injured reserve and seeing notable performances from cornerback Quinyon Mitchell and receiver Darius Cooper.

The Philadelphia Eagles returned to the field Monday for a fully padded 1-hour-38-minute practice after an off day. The session followed a series of roster moves that saw defensive tackle David Blay, running back Ja’Quinden Jackson and outside linebacker Tarron Jackson signed, while running back Elijah Mitchell was placed on injured reserve and offensive guard Jaeden Roberts and tight end Dae’Quan Wright were waived.

Injuries reported at the start of practice included concussions, hamstring strains and other ailments affecting several wide receivers, a linebacker and a safety. Interior offensive lineman Willie Lampkin left early for the second consecutive day.

Depth-chart adjustments were evident as Fred Johnson filled in at right tackle for Lane Johnson, and rookie Markel Bell received the bulk of reps during Johnson’s brief absence. Michael Carter II earned first-team safety reps, and Jeremiah Trotter Jr. saw action alongside Zack Baun in a two-minute drill. The punt-return unit featured Britain Covey, Cooper DeJean, Quez Watkins, Elijah Moore and Brandon Hayes, with Will Shipley serving as the primary personal protector.

All-Pro cornerback Quinyon Mitchell made a key interception during a two-minute drill, breaking up a pass intended for Hollywood Brown and returning the ball to the Eagles’ offense. He later recorded a pass breakup in the same series.

Wide receiver Darius Cooper impressed with multiple catches across first- and second-team drills, including a contested back-shoulder reception from Jalen Hurts. Rookie tight end Eli Stowers also showed promise, completing a one-handed deep catch and later scoring a touchdown against first-team defense.

Jalen Hurts displayed poise in a drill where he avoided a pass rush from Jalen Carter and delivered a timely throw to Elijah Moore for a significant gain.

Other notable moments included a pass breakup by Mac McWilliams on Dallas Goedert, Tariq Castro-Fields’ continued strong coverage, and a strong performance by rookie cornerback Riq Woolen in 7-on-7 play.

Former NFL players Michael Vick and DeSean Jackson visited the practice to promote upcoming HBCU games at Lincoln Financial Field later this season.
