Meta CEO's yacht did not receive Coast Guard distress call, another vessel provided aid
A spokesperson said Mark Zuckerberg's yacht missed a radio request for assistance from a skiff off Alaska, and a nearby cruise ship rescued the vessel before the yacht could respond.
A spokesperson for Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg said his yacht, Launchpad, did not hear a Coast Guard radio call for help from a small skiff that ran out of fuel off Alaska's coast. The skiff's distress request was received by the U.S. Coast Guard, and a nearby cruise ship, the Wilderness Legacy, towed the vessel into Farragut Bay and refueled it. The spokesperson told the Alaska Beacon that the yacht was operating on a different radio channel and only became aware of the contact after the rescue was already in progress. "Mark and his family were not on board at the time of the incident. As the Coast Guard noted, the boat was not in distress, and by the time the crew reviewed the Coast Guard contact on a different radio channel from the one they were operating on, the assist was already underway. We’re grateful all parties are safe," the email said. A passenger on the Wilderness Legacy posted on Bluesky that the cruise ship rescued the stranded vessel after the Coast Guard had radioed Zuckerberg's yacht, which was closer to the incident.
