Drone Attack Causes Fire at Volgograd Oil Refinery
A drone attack on August 14 ignited a fire at the Volgograd Oil Refinery in Russia, with no reported casualties.
An overnight drone attack on August 14 targeted the Volgograd Oil Refinery in Russia, resulting in an oil spill and subsequent fire. Volgograd Oblast Governor Andrey Bocharov stated that Russian air defense forces repelled a massive unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) attack in the region. He reported that falling debris from the intercepted drones caused the spill and fire at the refinery, and that firefighters promptly began extinguishing the blaze. Preliminary information indicates there are no casualties. The Volgograd refinery, owned by Russian oil company Lukoil, has been targeted multiple times during the ongoing conflict. Previous attacks were reported in January, February, and March 2025. Ukraine has frequently conducted long-range drone strikes on industrial and military facilities in Russia, with oil refineries being common targets. In August 2025, three Russian refineries reduced or suspended operations due to damage from such attacks. For instance, a Rosneft facility in Saratov Oblast halted oil intake after a strike on August 10, and the Ryazan refinery decreased production by half, while the Novokuibyshevsk refinery ceased production entirely on August 2.
