WNBA reverses technical foul on Caitlin Clark, averting suspension
The league withdrew a technical foul that would have triggered a one-game suspension for Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark after reviewing the incident.
The Women's National Basketball Association announced that a technical foul assessed to Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark during the team's 90-86 victory over the Chicago Sky on Saturday has been rescinded. The foul, which would have been Clark's eighth of the season, would have automatically resulted in a one-game suspension, forcing her to miss the Fever's upcoming matchup against New York.
The incident occurred in the third quarter when Clark, after being forced out of bounds, made contact with a referee. Clark later said the contact was accidental and that no words were exchanged, adding that she had reviewed the video and hoped the league would overturn the call.
A league spokesperson confirmed that the technical was withdrawn a few hours after the game concluded. Fever coach Stephanie White described the original call as an error, noting that incidental contact can occur during fast-paced play and that officials need to be aware of such situations.
With the technical removed, Clark remains eligible to play in the next game.
