WNBA rescinds Caitlin Clark's eighth technical foul, avoiding suspension
The league withdrew the eighth technical foul assessed to Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark, preventing the automatic one-game suspension and fine.
Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark avoided a one-game suspension after the WNBA withdrew the eighth technical foul recorded against her in a Saturday game against the Chicago Sky. The foul was initially issued when Clark appeared to bump into an official after losing her balance on a drive, a call both Clark and Fever head coach Stephanie White contested.
Within two hours of the game, reports indicated the league had rescinded the technical, meaning Clark remains one technical foul short of the suspension threshold. Clark, who finished with 26 points, 11 assists and four rebounds, said she had reviewed the replay and hoped the league would overturn the call.
The Fever, who won 90-86, will host the New York Liberty on Tuesday. The team confirmed it will appeal the technical to the league, though the appeal became unnecessary after the reversal.
The game also featured a separate incident in which Chicago Sky forward DiJonai Carrington was ejected after receiving a flagrant-2 foul.
"She said I ran into her. I've already watched it on the tape, so we'll let the league decide, but it wasn't intentional or anything. So I'm hoping it's getting rescinded … I'll see you on Tuesday," Clark said in a post-game interview.
