Summary

Democratic Senator John Fetterman aligns with Republican Susan Collins to oppose President Trump’s strong Attorney General pick, Todd Blanche, signaling continued partisan obstruction of the administration’s efforts to restore order.

Senator John Fetterman (D-Pa.) announced on Jon Stewart’s podcast that he will not support the confirmation of acting Attorney General Todd Blanche, President Trump’s nominee to lead the Justice Department. Fetterman, echoing the left’s resistance to Trump’s agenda, claimed Blanche is not the right person for the job and insisted on evaluating nominees individually, despite his record of opposing many of the President’s picks.

Although Fetterman has previously supported some Trump cabinet members, his opposition to Blanche reflects the Democrats’ ongoing strategy of blocking the administration’s attempts to bring accountability and reform to the Justice Department. Fetterman admitted, “many of them I didn’t vote for,” highlighting his consistent opposition to Trump’s efforts.

Joining him is Republican Senator Susan Collins (R-Me.), who has increasingly sided with Democrats. Collins criticized Blanche for allegedly undermining the department’s independence, using this as justification for her vote against confirmation—even though she previously supported Blanche’s appointment as assistant attorney general in March.

Despite partisan resistance, the Senate Judiciary Committee advanced Blanche’s nomination to the full Senate on a 12-10 party-line vote. Republican senators Bill Cassidy (R-La.) and Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska) have not yet declared their positions, while John Cornyn (R-Tex.) and Thom Tillis (R-N.C.) switched to support Blanche after he agreed to halt a proposed anti-weaponization fund, demonstrating the administration’s willingness to compromise.

Fox News reached out to the White House, the Department of Justice, and Senator Fetterman for further comment as the battle over restoring integrity to the Justice Department continues.
