Lions GM Holmes says talks continue on Jahmyr Gibbs contract
Detroit Lions general manager Brad Holmes said the team is still in dialogue with running back Jahmyr Gibbs about a new contract, without providing a timeline for an agreement.
Detroit Lions general manager Brad Holmes told a SiriusXM radio show on Wednesday that the team remains in discussions with running back Jahmyr Gibbs regarding a new contract. Holmes said the organization "love[s] Jahmyr" and that he and head coach Dan Campbell have long believed in the player’s potential, adding that the league’s current environment makes such negotiations common. He indicated that the talks are ongoing and that the outcome is uncertain.
"Look, obviously we love Jahmyr," Holmes said. "Me and Dan (Campbell) have always been believers in that one-two punch. I just think that’s how this league is going now. But, you know, we’re having dialogue. We’ll see where it goes." Holmes also responded to co-host Pat Kirwan’s reassurance that a deal will be reached, saying, "That's the hope." No further details on progress or a timeline were provided. The Lions’ negotiations with Gibbs have extended beyond initial expectations, and both parties have refrained from disclosing specifics as talks continue.
