Russia conducts large-scale drone and missile strike on Kyiv, killing 17
A wave of drones and ballistic missiles hit Kyiv, causing 17 deaths and 44 injuries, while Ukrainian forces targeted Wildberries warehouses.
Russia launched a coordinated attack on Kyiv using drones and ballistic missiles, resulting in at least 17 fatalities and 44 injuries, according to Ukrainian officials. The operation involved 24 ballistic missiles, four Zircon/Oniks missiles and 115 drones, striking civilian warehouse facilities, infrastructure and a railway station. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy expressed condolences to the victims' families and urged international partners to accelerate delivery of missile interceptors, saying delays contributed to the casualties. He also called for additional sanctions, noting that a sizable portion of Russia's missile production remains unsanctioned.
The strike follows a recent increase in Russian missile attacks on Ukrainian cities, which analysts say aims to exploit Kyiv's limited stock of ballistic missile interceptors. Ukraine continues to rely heavily on the U.S.-provided Patriot PAC-3 system and has advocated for domestic production to address the shortfall. In a recent interview, U.S. President Donald Trump said he had not yet decided whether to permit Ukraine to manufacture Patriot interceptors.
