Man killed in Chino Hills kidnapping linked to business dispute, authorities say

Summary

Prosecutors say a fatal kidnapping in Chino Hills stemmed from a business dispute, leading to a murder charge with a kidnapping special circumstance for one suspect.

Prosecutors said the kidnapping and killing of 60-year-old Shukur Aikebaer in Chino Hills resulted from a business disagreement with one of the abductors. San Bernardino County District Attorney Jason Anderson announced a felony murder charge against 66-year-old Jianquan Bo of Irvine, accusing him of participating in the crime that could carry the death penalty.

According to authorities, Bo and his 67-year-old brother, Zhengfeng Bo, abducted Aikebaer from his Monteverde Drive home on Wednesday. After a brief police chase, the younger Bo surrendered, while the older Bo fled to the back of the vehicle and shot Aikebaer, who was hidden in the trunk. Sheriff’s deputies then opened fire, killing Zhengfeng Bo at the scene. Officials said deputies were unaware Aikebaer was in the trunk until after the shooting.

"Obviously there’s been some type of dispute, perhaps either decision-making within the business or some financial loss that led to a dispute," Anderson said.

Jianquan Bo remains the sole survivor and faces a murder charge with a kidnapping special circumstance, which could result in life imprisonment without parole or the death penalty, though Anderson noted such decisions are not made at the arraignment stage. Bo is scheduled for arraignment on Tuesday.

The investigation continues.
