Detroit Tigers acquire 21-year-old outfielder Zyhir Hope in Tarik Skubal trade

Summary

The Tigers received prospect outfielder Zyhir Hope from the Los Angeles Dodgers in exchange for pitcher Tarik Skubal, adding a highly ranked minor-league player to their system.

The Detroit Tigers added 21-year-old left-handed outfielder Zyhir Hope to their organization after trading pitcher Tarik Skubal to the Los Angeles Dodgers. Hope, originally selected by the Chicago Cubs in the 11th round of the 2023 MLB Draft, was later sent to the Dodgers as part of the Michael Busch deal and has progressed through Los Angeles’ minor-league system.

MLB.com currently ranks Hope as the 25th-best prospect in baseball after a strong Double-A season in which he posted a .293 batting average, 23 home runs, 87 runs batted in and 18 stolen bases, while also receiving credit for solid defensive play.

The Tigers already have outfielders Riley Greene, Zach McKinstry and recently promoted Max Clark on their major-league roster, so Hope is expected to continue developing in Double-A. Analysts project a possible major-league debut around 2027, with the timing dependent on roster needs and potential injuries.

"Hope is a left-handed hitter with power, speed and defensive ability," a Tigers spokesperson said, noting the prospect’s potential to contribute in the future.
