Louisiana Attorney General announces state probe of Dr. Anthony Fauci after Senate hearing

Resumen

Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill said her office will investigate Dr. Anthony Fauci, citing his repeated invocation of the Fifth Amendment during a Senate hearing, and noted that a federal pardon does not preclude state-level action.

Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill announced on Saturday that her office will open a state investigation into Dr. Anthony Fauci following his extensive use of the Fifth Amendment during a Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee hearing on Wednesday. Fauci, the former director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, declined to answer lawmakers' questions, invoking the constitutional right 111 times.

Murrill wrote on X that, despite receiving a federal pardon from former President Joe Biden, Fauci could still face prosecution under Louisiana law. She added that Louisiana will join Alabama and Florida in examining whether Fauci committed offenses that could be pursued in state courts.

Governor Jeff Landry also expressed support for the investigation, noting his prior involvement in a deposition of Fauci. Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier similarly said his office is reviewing potential violations of state law. Alabama Senator Tommy Tuberville, who is running for governor, said a presidential pardon does not shield Fauci from state charges and indicated he would explore civil claims if elected.
