Broncos wrap up second day of training camp with offensive fireworks and defensive resilience
Denver held its second practice session, featuring big plays from quarterbacks Bo Nix and Jarrett Stidham, while the defense responded strongly; backup quarterback competition and the WR3 race also drew attention.
Denver continued its preseason preparations on the second day of training camp, completing the final practice before a scheduled day off on Sunday. Full pads will be introduced on Monday, marking the start of the most critical camp sessions.
Quarterbacks Bo Nix and Jarrett Stidham each delivered long touchdown passes during the drills. Nix connected with running back RJ Harvey on a 20-yard wheel route in the 7-on-7 segment and later threw a 40-yard touchdown to second-year receiver Pat Bryant in the first-team series. Stidham completed a 70-yard strike to Hakeem Butler after a coverage breakdown and a 50-yard touchdown to Marvin Mims Jr. later in the session.
The defense answered the offensive bursts, stopping the Broncos twice in the final move-the-ball period, which the coaching staff cited as evidence of the unit’s strength.
After practice, Nix told reporters, > "It feels great. It feels normal. It feels like we’re heading in the right direction as a team. Both sides of the ball have been making a lot of plays. It’s just a fun time right now."
Head coach Sean Payton downplayed speculation about the backup quarterback battle, noting that no formal discussion had taken place. He added that the staff observed "immediate growth" from Sam Ehlinger, who received second-team reps, while Stidham continued to produce big plays.
Wide receiver Marvin Mims Jr. emerged as a leading candidate for the third-receiver role, catching a long touchdown from Stidham and drawing praise from Payton, who said Mims needs more touches and has shown reliability and consistency.
Injury updates indicated that guard Nick Gargiulo remains on the physically unable to perform list with a knee issue, linebacker Jordan Turner is on the non-football injury list, edge rusher Drew Sanders missed a second consecutive practice, and tight end Caleb Lohner was absent. Undrafted rookie wide receiver Joseph Manjack missed two practices due to a back injury but could return soon.
The organization also noted ongoing efforts to secure a new stadium site, with team president Damani Leech stating the club remains "laser focused" on delivering the project by 2031 and expressing interest in future Super Bowl hosting possibilities.
