Ben Affleck wins $1 million for charity on "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire"
Actor Ben Affleck and Jeopardy! champion Jamie Ding secured the $1 million prize on the celebrity edition of the game show, donating the winnings to Affleck's Eastern Congo Initiative.
Actor Ben Affleck teamed with former "Jeopardy!" champion Jamie Ding on a celebrity edition of "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire" hosted by Jimmy Kimmel. The pair entered the episode after winning $250,000 in the season premiere and were playing for a $1 million prize earmarked for Affleck's Eastern Congo Initiative nonprofit.
For the $500,000 question, they chose the first airplane flight as the correct answer after using the 50/50 lifeline. The answer was confirmed as correct. The final question asked which of four food-based names had never been used for a presidential turkey pardon. After consulting Kimmel through the "ask the host" lifeline and a phone-a-friend call, they selected "spaghetti and meatball," which also proved correct, securing the top prize.
"I only remember this because there was a time in my life where I spent time looking up examples that the press got things wrong," Affleck said.
"I would bet on Jimmy; I would go for it," Affleck added after the host’s input.
The winnings were directed to the Eastern Congo Initiative, a charitable organization founded by Affleck.
