Former UFC fighter Anthony Smith charged with terroristic threats and domestic assault after bar incident
Anthony Smith was arrested in Nebraska on felony charges of terroristic threats, false imprisonment and domestic assault following an alleged altercation with his wife at a bar, and was released on a $500,000 bond.
Anthony Smith, a former UFC light-heavyweight contender and analyst, was taken into custody in Nebraska on Monday and booked into Sarpy County Jail on three felony counts: terroristic threats, first-degree false imprisonment and first-degree domestic assault. The Sarpy County District Attorney's Office said Smith got into an argument with his wife at a bar in Gretna and threatened to kill her unless she entered his vehicle. According to the statement, he forced her into the car and made several attempts to strike her with the vehicle after she tried to escape during the drive. Smith’s wife was not injured, and Smith surrendered to authorities after a warrant was issued.
He was released on Wednesday after posting a $500,000 bond, with conditions that prohibit contact with his wife and restrict travel out of Nebraska without judicial approval. Smith is scheduled to appear in court on Aug. 17. If convicted, the combined charges could result in a sentence exceeding 20 years in prison.
