Surveillance Video Shows Missing Grenada Tourist Jumping Into Water Before Disappearance

Summary

Police say surveillance footage captured Elizabeth Waddell swimming off Grand Anse Beach on July 22, after which she was not seen returning, prompting a missing-persons investigation.

Surveillance cameras recorded Elizabeth "Liz" Waddell walking along Grand Anse Beach near her Airbnb in Grenada on July 22 at about 11:45 a.m. Approximately two minutes later the footage shows her jumping from a jetty into the sea and swimming away, after which she disappears from the camera view.

Royal Grenada Police Force Commissioner Randy Connaught told reporters that no footage shows Waddell returning from the water and that several eyewitnesses reported seeing her swimming.

According to Amanda Romano-Harmon, a friend who was staying at the same Airbnb, the other traveler was inside working on an online course and did not see Waddell on the pier after she left. The friend later called Waddell's husband, Cailen, to report that she had not been seen for several hours.

Cailen Waddell traveled to Grenada on July 24 to assist in the search. He said his wife was last seen wearing blue-and-white striped shorts and an orange crop top, and that she was without a phone, wallet, cash, cards, or shoes.
