Samsung launches Galaxy Z Fold8 with slimmer design and upgraded Snapdragon processor

Summary

Samsung introduced the Galaxy Z Fold8, a lighter foldable smartphone that shares many specifications with the higher-end Z Fold8 Ultra, including a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset and 120 Hz LTPO AMOLED displays.

Samsung unveiled the Galaxy Z Fold8, expanding its foldable lineup with a slimmer, lighter model that sits alongside the Z Fold8 Ultra. The new device retains the premium build quality of its Ultra counterpart, featuring a 7.6-inch foldable Dynamic LTPO AMOLED 2X display with a 120 Hz refresh rate and a 5.5-inch cover screen, both protected by Gorilla Glass Victus Ceramic 3.

Powering the Z Fold8 is Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 3 nm chipset, paired with 12 GB of RAM and storage options ranging from 256 GB to 1 TB. The phone runs Android 17 with One UI 9 and supports up to seven major Android upgrades. Camera hardware includes dual 50 MP rear sensors—one wide and one ultra-wide—and dual 10 MP front sensors. Video recording capabilities reach up to 8K at 30 fps.

The device houses a 4,800 mAh battery and introduces Samsung's optimized 45 W wired charging, the fastest charging rate offered on a Samsung foldable to date. Wireless charging is supported at 20 W, with reverse wireless charging at 4.5 W. Connectivity features include 5G, eSIM, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6.0, NFC, and Ultra Wideband support.

Packaging for the Z Fold8 follows Samsung's recent sustainability measures, using a cardboard box printed with soy ink and omitting plastic. The box contains a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, stereo speakers, a Type-C to Type-C cable, and a cradle for the device, but no charger or case.

Pricing starts at $1,899.99 (approximately £1,699) for the 256 GB model, with higher-capacity variants priced up to $2,099.99.
