Taysom Hill confirms he will not return to New Orleans Saints for a tenth season

Summary

Quarterback Taysom Hill announced via social media that he will not be back with the New Orleans Saints, leaving his future in the NFL uncertain.

Quarterback Taysom Hill said on Wednesday that he will not be returning to the New Orleans Saints for a tenth season, posting a statement on social media. Hill did not specify whether he plans to retire or seek opportunities with another team, noting that he has taken the offseason to consider his next steps.

In his first public comments since the 2025 season ended, Hill thanked the organization and its fans for nine years in New Orleans, saying, "I still don't have a clear answer about what the future holds, but I know that returning to New Orleans is not in the cards. As training camp begins, I didn't want my silence to be misinterpreted, and as hard as it is to put into words, I wanted to express my gratitude."

Hill, often described as a "Swiss Army knife" for playing quarterback, running back, tight end, wide receiver and special teams, leaves the franchise as one of its most versatile players. He noted, "I had always heard, 'If you love New Orleans, New Orleans will love you back,' ... The passion, loyalty, and support you showed my family and me over these nine seasons were truly one of a kind."

If he does not play again, Hill would retire as one of only five NFL players to record at least 10 touchdowns each by rushing, receiving and passing, and the sole player in the Super Bowl era with 1,000 yards in all three categories. Saints general manager Mickey Loomis said he had spoken with Hill recently but declined to share details, adding, "We thank Taysom for all his great contributions, and we are positive that a day will come when all his accomplishments can be properly celebrated."

Hill, who turns 36 next month, is still recovering from a serious knee injury suffered in December 2024. He missed the start of the 2025 season but returned for 13 games, recording 11 receptions, one passing touchdown and 52 rushes for 114 yards and a touchdown, including a late-season game in which the Saints designed plays to help him reach 1,000 career receiving yards and score a final touchdown.
