Red Sox place infielder Curtis Mead on injured list with fractured wrist
Curtis Mead was transferred to the injured list after an MRI confirmed a fractured left wrist sustained during his debut with Boston, and he will undergo further evaluation by a hand specialist.
The Boston Red Sox placed 25-year-old infielder Curtis Mead on the injured list after an MRI revealed a fracture in his left wrist. The injury occurred during his second at-bat in his debut for the team, when he was struck by a pitch from Oakland Athletics starter Jack Perkins in the series opener in West Sacramento.
Initial X-rays taken at the ballpark did not show a fracture, likely due to swelling, prompting the team to order advanced imaging. Mead will travel to Boston to see a hand specialist, who will determine whether surgery is required. The Red Sox have not set a timetable for his return, and fantasy managers are advised to expect a lengthy absence.
Mead was acquired from the Washington Nationals in a trade for left-hander Connelly Early over the weekend. He had posted a .254/.352/.500 line with 17 home runs in 327 plate appearances for Washington before joining Boston.
