NY Times columnist Ross Douthat to become correspondent on CBS' "60 Minutes"
Opinion columnist Ross Douthat will join CBS News' "60 Minutes" as a correspondent for its 59th season, part of a broader staffing overhaul overseen by editor-in-chief Bari Weiss.
Opinion columnist Ross Douthat of The New York Times will move to CBS News to serve as a correspondent on the Sunday program "60 Minutes," according to a memo from the show’s executive producer. Douthat joins a group of new contributors for the series' 59th season, which begins on Sept. 13, including writer Sebastian Junger, former Vice News correspondent Gianna Toboni, British journalist Trevor Phillips, and former "CBS Evening News" anchor Norah O’Donnell. The hires follow a series of personnel changes initiated by CBS News editor in chief Bari Weiss, who recently dismissed three senior correspondents and the program’s former executive producer as part of a restructuring effort.
"We are rebuilding the team to bring fresh perspectives and maintain the program’s standards," Weiss said in an internal communication.
