World leaders, including Trump, attend Senator Lindsey Graham's funeral
Hundreds gathered at the Washington National Cathedral for Senator Lindsey Graham's funeral, with U.S. President Donald Trump and several foreign heads of state delivering remarks.
Hundreds of mourners gathered at the Washington National Cathedral on Tuesday to honor the late South Carolina Senator Lindsey Graham, who died on July 11. Graham, a Republican who served in the U.S. House from 1995 to 2003 and in the Senate from 2003 until his death, had chaired the Senate Budget Committee and sat on several key committees, including Appropriations, Judiciary and Environment and Public Works.
He was known for his support of the 2003 Iraq invasion, advocacy for military action against Iran, and strong backing of Israel. Graham also expressed vocal support for Ukraine following Russia's 2022 invasion.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and other international leaders attended the service. President Donald Trump spoke, describing Graham as a longtime ally and a “force in the world and US politics.”
"For more than 30 years, nothing of consequence happened in this capital without Lindsey Graham knowing about it. Nothing of significance happened anywhere in the world without Lindsey Graham having a view on it," Trump said.
"And no bill became law in the most exceptional republic in human history without Lindsey Graham having a say in it."
Trump added that Graham died “doing the work he was born to do.”
