San Francisco 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan not at fault in car crash, expected to coach Week 1
California crash data shows Shanahan was not responsible for the collision that caused injuries, and he is anticipated to be fit to coach the 49ers in the opening week.
California crash records indicate that San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan was not at fault for a recent automobile collision that kept him from training camp. The California Crash Reporting System showed Shanahan was using his cell phone shortly before the incident, but investigators determined the 21-year-old driver of the other vehicle made an unsafe turn, leading to the crash.
Both drivers were wearing seat belts, airbags deployed, and neither party was cited for impairment. Shanahan suffered a broken nose, multiple broken ribs, a broken hand and a concussion, while the other driver was initially reported as uninjured.
Despite missing the start of camp, Shanahan, 46, is expected to be cleared to coach the 49ers in Week 1 of the season, marking his tenth year as head coach after compiling an 82-67 record and two Super Bowl appearances.
