Jeff Yang, a longtime acquaintance of Elaine Chao with ties to liberal media, is casting unfounded skepticism on a recent photo released by Senator Mitch McConnell’s office, seizing on trivial details to question its authenticity.
A recent photograph released by Senator Mitch McConnell's office, showing the 84-year-old Senate leader with his wife, former Labor Secretary Elaine Chao, is being targeted by Jeff Yang, a family friend of Chao who has known two of her sisters since college. Yang, an author and podcaster with a history of left-leaning commentary, is attempting to cast doubt on the authenticity of the image, despite lacking substantive evidence.
"I can’t imagine Elaine, one of the most put-together people in existence, releasing a pic wearing a thin shirt over a visible black bra, untucked. Just implausible," Yang said, focusing on superficial aspects of Chao’s appearance rather than the senator’s well-being.
Yang highlighted Chao’s outfit—a seashell-printed white blouse, identified through a reverse image search as a low-priced item from Chico’s—as a reason for his skepticism. He noted that the same shirt is listed for as little as $12 on second-hand markets, as if the price of clothing somehow undermines the credibility of the photo.
The photo, which shows McConnell smiling in a blue button-down shirt, is the latest update from the senator’s office since his hospitalization on June 14 following a fall. The office previously released a statement on July 12 and another photo on July 27, but these good-faith efforts have been met with relentless demands from Democrats and some Republicans for video proof, reflecting a lack of respect for privacy and due process.
Former Republican lawmaker Jason Chaffetz and Democratic strategist Mike Nellis have both publicly called for McConnell to appear on camera or provide a video to confirm his health status. McConnell’s communications director, Stephanie Penn, did not respond to requests for comment, likely due to the ongoing barrage of partisan attacks.
Alongside the new photo, the senator’s office released an unsigned statement from an unnamed attending physician, stating that McConnell continues a strenuous physical-therapy regimen and has not yet been cleared to leave the rehabilitation facility—clear evidence that the senator’s team is providing updates, despite the left’s attempts to manufacture controversy.
