Summary

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky met with U.S. President Donald Trump in the Oval Office to discuss licensing for Patriot missile production and other support measures for Ukraine’s war effort.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky met with President Donald Trump in the Oval Office on Tuesday, a day that also marked the funeral of Sen. Lindsey Graham. The closed-door discussion focused on granting Ukraine a license to produce Patriot air-defense interceptors and explored additional ideas to bolster Kyiv’s ability to fight Russia.

Zelensky thanked Trump on social media, describing the encounter as a “good meeting” and praising the administration’s assistance to Ukraine. He said the two leaders also talked about reviving diplomatic efforts.

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt called the meeting, along with a later discussion with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, “positive and productive.”

The meeting follows Trump’s announcement at the NATO summit in Ankara that the United States would issue a license for Patriot system production, a long-standing request from Kyiv.

In a separate interview, Trump recalled Sen. Graham’s strong support for Ukraine and said the senator had never wavered in his backing.

Zelensky’s Washington visit also includes a scheduled meeting with senators after Graham’s funeral and a planned discussion of the bipartisan sanctions bill named for the late senator, which targets countries buying Russian oil and gas and imposes penalties on Russian officials and entities.
