Pima County Sheriff says investigation into Nancy Guthrie disappearance remains active

Summary

Sheriff Chris Nanos reaffirmed that the search for 84-year-old Nancy Guthrie, missing since Feb. 1 near Tucson, is ongoing and expressed confidence that DNA analysis will lead to a resolution.

Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos told KVOA News 4 Tucson on July 27 that the investigation into the disappearance of 84-year-old Nancy Guthrie, who vanished from her home near Tucson on Feb. 1, remains active and has not been classified as a cold case. The FBI continues to treat the case as a kidnapping for ransom, and law-enforcement officials said DNA evidence is being examined by multiple laboratories across the United States.

"We still have DNA that’s not just one lab or two labs. These are labs all across the country that are talking to one another about how best to look at what they have in front of them for DNA evidence. And, so I’m still positive we will resolve this case," Nanos said.

Savannah Guthrie, the missing woman's daughter, posted a video on Instagram on July 27 urging anyone with information to come forward. She previously appeared on TODAY on June 23 to request public assistance after a second note was sent to media outlets regarding her mother's case.

"We’re working this as hard as we can. There’s no lead too small. We, like Savannah today, we encourage you, if you know something, saw something, please let us know," Nanos added.

No significant new leads have been disclosed publicly since the disappearance, and investigators continue to seek tips from the community.
