Grenada police continue search for missing North Carolina tourist
Grenadian authorities are still searching for 44-year-old Elizabeth Waddell, who vanished while swimming at Grand Anse Beach on July 12, and have not ruled out the possibility that she is still alive.
Grenadian police said on Tuesday that the search for Elizabeth “Liz” Waddell, a 44-year-old resident of Cary, North Carolina, remains ongoing. Waddell was last seen entering the water at Grand Anse Beach on Wednesday morning. Surveillance footage showed her walking on a jetty at 11:36 a.m., entering the sea at 11:51 a.m., and swimming beneath the jetty at 12:04 p.m. Witnesses later reported seeing her in open water. Her traveling companion, captured on camera at 12:46 p.m., reported her missing to authorities at 5:50 p.m.
Acting Police Commissioner Randy Connaught told reporters that the case continues to be treated as a missing-person investigation and that the police are receiving cooperation from the companion. He said the force is appealing to fishermen, boat operators and local residents to watch for a medium-build woman with short blonde hair along the southern coastline. Waddell’s husband has traveled to Grenada to assist with the search.
"Any bit of information will do at this time, and we do hope that we can locate Elizabeth very soon," Connaught said.
The police have not found any trace of Waddell in nearly six days but remain hopeful of locating her alive.
