North Carolina mother missing after disappearing at Grenada beach

Summary

Elizabeth "Liz" Waddell, 44, vanished from Grand Anse Beach in Grenada on Wednesday; authorities have launched an island-wide search involving divers, students and local residents.

A 44-year-old North Carolina mother disappeared from Grand Anse Beach in St. George's, Grenada, on Wednesday while staying at an Airbnb with a friend. According to Grenadian police, she was last seen walking to a pool overlooking the bay in her swimsuit. Her friend later found only Waddell's towel on a nearby pier and reported her missing.

Surveillance video captured Waddell swimming near the pier between noon and 1 p.m. before she vanished from view, and divers have been searching the water for several days. Waddell, a Raleigh-area physical therapist and fitness instructor, is described as 5-foot-5 with short blond hair; police also released a photo showing her with pink hair.

Her husband, daughter and twin sister have traveled to Grenada to assist in the search, which is also being supported by university students. Authorities have appealed to fishermen, boat operators and coastal residents for any information that could help locate her.
