Ten MLB Prospects Likely to Move Before August 3 Trade Deadline

Summary

With the 2026 trade deadline approaching, analysts identify ten minor-league players who could be dealt as teams seek to address roster needs.

The MLB trade deadline on Aug. 3 is expected to generate a flurry of prospect transactions as clubs look to strengthen their major-league rosters. While elite prospects such as Leo De Vries are unlikely to be moved, a number of highly regarded players are projected to be on the market.

The Chicago Cubs could consider trading outfielder Kevin Alcántara, a right-handed center-field option who has spent recent seasons in Triple-A but still struggles with swing-and-miss issues. The Cardinals’ catching depth makes 22-year-old Leo Bernal, a strong defender and power hitter in Triple-A, a candidate for a deal.

The Tampa Bay Rays may explore options for 22-year-old catcher Caden Bodine, who posted a .400+ on-base percentage in Double-A, while the Milwaukee Brewers could look at third-baseman Andrew Fischer, whose defensive limitations contrast with the organization’s preference for more agile corner infielders.

New York’s pitching depth positions right-hander Ben Hess, a 23-year-old with high-velocity stuff, as a possible trade chip. The Los Angeles Dodgers, stocked with multiple top-100 outfield prospects, might move either 21-year-old Zyhir Hope or 23-year-old James Tibbs III, both of whom have shown power in Triple-A.

Cleveland’s Cooper Ingle, a 24-year-old who can play both outfield and catcher and posted a .400 on-base percentage in Triple-A, is also highlighted as a potential acquisition target. Boston may consider right-hander Marcus Phillips, a 21-year-old former first-round pick who has reached 100 mph, to add depth to its pitching pipeline.

Finally, the Philadelphia Phillies’ shortstop Bryan Rincon, a 22-year-old with a strong defensive reputation and Rule 5 Draft eligibility, could be included in a trade as teams address roster constraints ahead of the deadline.

"We have a deep farm system and will evaluate all options to improve our major-league roster," a spokesperson for a club with multiple prospects said.

These players represent a mix of positional needs and organizational blockages that could drive activity in the final week before the deadline.
