Patriots' second training camp practice highlights defensive unit and backup players

Summary

During the second practice of training camp, New England's pass defense performed well, and several backup players showed solid execution in drills.

New England Patriots held their second training-camp practice on Sunday morning under clear weather with strong attendance. The Patriots' pass-defense unit collectively performed effectively, with players such as Christian Gonzalez, Carlton Davis, John Saunders Jr., and Milton Williams contributing pass break-ups. The practice featured the team's first interception of the summer when quarterback Drake Maye's pass was tipped and caught by Craig Woodson.

Quarterback Behren Morton, listed as the third-string option, completed five of six passes in team drills and demonstrated confidence in the pocket. Undrafted wide receiver Nick DeGennaro recorded several receptions from Morton, providing a reliable target in the drill series. Rookie tight end Tanner Arkin, signed as a free agent, participated in blocking assignments, lined up as a fullback in the absence of Reggie Gilliam, and practiced long-snapping alongside Julian Ashby.

Kicker Andy Borregales attempted six field-goal kicks from distances of roughly 30 to 50 yards, converting all attempts. The Patriots plan to hold their third practice on Monday, with gates opening at 9:15 p.m. ET and the session beginning about an hour later.
