U.S. Stock Futures Rise Amid Tariff Concerns and Earnings Reports
U.S. stock futures are up as investors weigh President Trump's new tariff plans and upcoming corporate earnings.
U.S. stock futures rose on Wednesday as investors assessed President Donald Trump's latest tariff announcements and anticipated corporate earnings reports. Futures for the Dow Jones Industrial Average increased by 169 points, or 0.4%, while S&P 500 and Nasdaq 100 futures climbed 0.3% and 0.2%, respectively.
The previous session saw declines across major indexes following President Trump's statement that he would soon unveil tariffs on semiconductors and pharmaceuticals. Additionally, the Institute for Supply Management reported an unexpected decline in the services industry survey, raising concerns about potential stagflation—a combination of persistent inflation and sluggish growth.
Despite these concerns, investors appeared optimistic on Wednesday. Advanced Micro Devices reported solid earnings, and positive results from European companies further bolstered sentiment. Kathleen Brooks, research director at XTB, noted that the day's movements "may reverse some of Tuesday's late selloff," adding that "decent earnings on both sides of the Atlantic [are] neutralizing some of the concerns around a slowdown in the US and the effects on the global economy from President Trump's continuing obsession with tariffs."
Upcoming earnings reports include McDonald's and Walt Disney, with Airbnb and Uber scheduled to report after the closing bell. No major economic releases are expected today.
