Norris secures pole for Hungarian Grand Prix as Verstappen slides

Summary

Lando Norris claimed pole position for the Hungarian Grand Prix after a strong qualifying session, while Max Verstappen suffered a spin and Lewis Hamilton qualified second.

Lando Norris recorded the fastest lap in the final qualifying session for the Hungarian Grand Prix, earning pole position with a time of 1:17.456. Max Verstappen lost control at Turn 14 and spun, preventing him from improving his time. Lewis Hamilton posted the second-fastest lap at 1:17.931, while George Russell moved up to fourth place.

"Very happy to be back on top. Honestly, I had confidence through the whole of today. My laps in Q3 were not the best, so pleasantly surprised to be back on top. But we've been doing a good job," Norris said.

"Congratulations to Lando, he did a great lap. I felt solid throughout qualifying but for some reason, we went out first which I don't think was the right call. And the grip wasn't there for either Charles or I. We were quickest throughout so it's definitely one that got away," Hamilton added.

Charles Leclerc acknowledged difficulties with changing wind conditions and a disrupted qualifying run, noting that the yellow-flag period had helped his position. Other notable performances included Oscar Piastri moving up to second place, and Mick Schumacher’s teammate, Antonio Giovinazzi, reaching the top ten.

The session featured several incidents, including a spin by Hadjar at Turn 12 and a yellow-flag interruption that affected multiple drivers' laps. The final grid positions set the stage for a front-row battle between Norris and Hamilton at the race weekend's start.
