Apple's $250 million Siri lawsuit settlement receives preliminary court approval

Summary

A U.S. judge has given preliminary approval to Apple’s $250 million settlement over delayed Siri AI features, with eligible iPhone owners slated to receive payments of $25 to $95.

Apple has secured preliminary approval from a federal judge for a $250 million settlement that resolves a class-action lawsuit alleging the company misled consumers about the launch of its Siri AI features. The settlement, announced in May, targets U.S. purchasers of certain iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 16 models bought between June 10, 2024, and March 29, 2025. Eligible claimants can receive a payment of $25 per device, which may rise to $95 if fewer claims are filed than expected.

The court document filed on July 17 indicated that a settlement website has not yet been launched, and the claims process could take several months to become operational. Apple said it agreed to settle “to stay focused on delivering the most innovative products and services to our users.”

Potential claimants will be notified by email roughly 45 days after the preliminary approval, though individuals who do not receive notice but meet the eligibility criteria may still submit a claim. The settlement will require proof of purchase, such as a serial number, once the online portal is live.

Apple introduced the revamped “Siri AI” at its WWDC 2026 event and plans to make it publicly available in a beta later this month, with a full release expected with iOS 27 in September for iPhone 15 Pro and newer devices.
