Apple plans multiple new Mac models, including a touchscreen MacBook, for later this year
Apple is preparing to launch several updated Macs before year-end, featuring a touchscreen MacBook, the first devices with M6 chips and refreshed iMac, mini and Studio models.
Apple is set to introduce a range of new Mac computers later this year. The flagship model, tentatively called the MacBook Ultra, would be the company's first MacBook with a touchscreen and OLED display, and may replace the notch with a Dynamic Island interface. Bloomberg reports the device could be thinner than current MacBook Pro designs and will run on the existing M5 Pro and M5 Max processors.
The firm is also expected to release a base-level MacBook Pro equipped with its next-generation M6 chip, which is said to provide higher memory bandwidth and improved CPU and GPU performance while otherwise retaining the current design.
Apple's 24-inch iMac, last refreshed in October 2024 with an M4 chip, is rumored to receive an update this fall that will likely incorporate the M6 processor and may be offered in additional colour options.
Updates to the Mac mini and Mac Studio are also in development. The mini is reportedly being tested with M5 Pro and entry-level M6 chips, while the Studio may see M5 Max and M5 Ultra variants. Bloomberg notes that the timing of these releases depends on the availability of memory chips, and a previously anticipated end-of-year launch for the new Mac Studio is now uncertain.
Industry analysts say the upcoming lineup reflects Apple's response to broader memory and storage supply constraints affecting the market.
