Orioles snap Red Sox's 15-game winning streak in doubleheader nightcap
Baltimore defeated Boston 5-1, ending the Red Sox's franchise-tying 15-game run, with Kyle Bradish allowing just one run over six innings.
Baltimore halted Boston's franchise-record-tying 15-game winning streak on Wednesday night, beating the Red Sox 5-1 in the second game of a doubleheader. Kyle Bradish pitched six innings of one-run ball, giving up four hits, four strikeouts and a walk, while three Orioles relievers combined for just one hit.
The Orioles took an early lead with a two-run single by Dylan Beavers in the first inning, followed by additional runs that built a 4-0 advantage before Boston scored a lone run. Masataka Yoshida contributed an RBI single for the Red Sox.
Boston's first baseman Willson Contreras said the team should be proud of the streak, while interim manager Chad Tracy noted that a long run was always expected to end. The loss was Boston's first since a 10-2 defeat to Washington on July 1, and it ended a stretch that had lifted the club from last place in the AL East to a 52-49 record.
Bradish, who recently signed a five-year, $90 million contract through 2031, earned his seventh win of the season. The victory gave Baltimore its 11th win in 16 games and prevented a three-game sweep by Boston.
