Analyst forecasts multiple MLB trades ahead of Aug. 3 deadline

Summary

Baseball analyst Dayn Perry predicts several high-profile moves before the trade deadline, including a possible deal involving Detroit pitcher Tarik Skubal and a multi-player trade between the Cubs and Mets.

The Major League Baseball trade deadline is set for 6 p.m. ET on Aug. 3, and analysts say teams are already positioning themselves for activity.

Detroit, which holds the American League’s second-best record since June 1, is expected to trade two-time Cy Young winner Tarik Skubal despite a recent winning streak, according to analyst Dayn Perry. Perry suggests the Tigers may receive several young players rather than risk losing Skubal for a draft pick in free agency. He speculates that the Los Angeles Dodgers could be the destination, citing their motivation to pursue a third consecutive title and depth in the farm system.

Perry also predicts a trade that would send three New York Mets pitchers – including Freddy Peralta, Huascar Brazoban and either A.J. Minter or Brooks Raley – to the Chicago Cubs in exchange for prospects, noting the Cubs’ need for pitching depth after a large number of injuries.

Other forecasts include a three-year extension for Giants second-baseman Luis Arraez, a trade of Seattle’s starter Luis Castillo, and the San Diego Padres retaining closer Mason Miller while moving other pitchers. Perry expects the New York Yankees to complete at least five roster-adding trades, the Chicago White Sox to acquire a controllable starter, and the Toronto Blue Jays to move three of four high-profile rental players. He also foresees the Tampa Bay Rays trading starter Shane McClanahan and adding a new arm to replace the loss.

These projections reflect the analyst’s view of how teams might balance immediate needs with longer-term strategies as the deadline approaches.
