Trump-backed Andy Biggs projected to win Arizona GOP gubernatorial primary

Resumen

CNN’s Decision Desk projects Rep. Andy Biggs will secure the Republican nomination for Arizona governor, setting up a November contest against incumbent Democrat Katie Hobbs.

CNN’s Decision Desk projected Rep. Andy Biggs will win the Republican primary for Arizona governor, positioning him to face Democratic incumbent Gov. Katie Hobbs in the November general election. Biggs, first elected to Congress in 2016, has served on the House Freedom Caucus and voted against certifying the 2020 election results. President Donald Trump endorsed Biggs after his earlier endorsement of withdrawn candidate Karrin Taylor Robson, and the campaign also received support from conservative activist group Turning Point Action.

In the same primary, former Pinal County Sheriff Mark Lamb was projected to win the GOP nomination for Arizona’s 5th Congressional District, and former NFL kicker Jay Feely was projected to win the GOP primary in the 1st District. Both candidates highlighted endorsements from Trump and significant personal campaign spending.

The projections also set up a general-election contest in Arizona’s 6th District, where Democrat JoAnna Mendoza is expected to challenge incumbent Republican Rep. Juan Ciscomani. Both have raised multi-million-dollar war chests ahead of the November race.

"We are confident that Arizona voters will have a clear choice in November," said a spokesperson for the CNN Decision Desk.

The outcomes will influence control of the U.S. House, as several competitive congressional races in the state remain undecided.
