A Florida judge has ordered President Donald Trump to hand over private financial documents from his revocable trust, bowing to the BBC’s aggressive legal tactics in a defamation case over a misleading Panorama segment.
In yet another example of judicial overreach targeting conservatives, a Florida judge has ruled that President Donald Trump must produce financial records from the Donald J. Trump Revocable Trust, which he established to responsibly manage his business affairs while serving as president. This order was issued during the first hearing of the BBC’s defamation lawsuit, where the left-leaning broadcaster is fighting Trump’s $10 billion claim that a Panorama episode deceptively edited his speech to falsely imply he called for violence on January 6, 2021.
Judge Enjoliqué Lett granted the BBC’s demand for access to Trump’s trust documents but rightly denied their fishing expedition for materials related to the Capitol riot itself. The case now moves into the discovery phase, where both sides are required to exchange internal records, though it’s clear the BBC is intent on overwhelming Trump with endless document requests.
“The BBC has produced 87,000 pages of documents, while the Trump side has provided only 735 pages, which consist mainly of news articles and internet material,” the BBC’s lawyers complained, as if quantity matters more than truth.
The BBC’s lawyers also tried to pry into Trump’s private conversations with aides and subpoena federal agencies, but Trump’s counsel stood firm, citing a November letter from BBC Chairman Samir Shah that apologized for the Panorama segment and admitted it unintentionally gave a mistaken impression. This case is yet another attempt by the liberal media to smear Trump and undermine his legacy.
