Christopher Nolan's 'The Odyssey' projected to earn $17.5 million on Monday, topping 2026 box-office records

Summary

Industry sources estimate that 'The Odyssey' will bring in about $17.5 million on Monday, making it the highest-grossing Monday in the United States and Canada for 2026.

Industry estimates suggest Christopher Nolan's latest film, "The Odyssey," is on track to generate roughly $17.5 million on Monday, which would surpass the previous 2026 record set by "Toy Story 5" at $17.3 million. The figure would also exceed the top-grossing live-action Monday of the year, recorded by "Star Wars: The Mandalorian & Grogu" on Memorial Day with $16.4 million.

Among Nolan's films, the Monday earnings would rank third, behind "The Dark Knight" ($24.4 million in 2008) and "The Dark Knight Rises" ($19.3 million in 2012). "Oppenheimer" earned $12.67 million on its opening Monday.

Box-office reports indicate that IMAX screenings are nearly sold out in major markets such as Los Angeles and New York City. At the TCL Chinese Theatre in Hollywood, the 7 p.m. IMAX 70mm show has limited availability, while the later 10:55 p.m. performance still has a few seats open. Similar demand is reported at AMC Lincoln Center in New York and Regal’s Sherman Oaks Galleria, where IMAX seats are scarce but other premium auditoriums have availability.

The film's cumulative domestic gross after four days stands at $141 million, about 48 % higher than the opening run of "Oppenheimer" in 2023. International earnings total $140.2 million, bringing the worldwide debut to approximately $263.7 million, the highest opening for Nolan to date. Universal declined to comment on the estimates.
