U.S. Pentagon reports nearly 100 service members injured in recent Iranian strikes

Summary

U.S. officials say almost 100 American military personnel have been wounded in Iranian attacks on regional bases since early July, with most injuries described as minor.

The Pentagon confirmed that close to 100 U.S. service members have sustained injuries in a series of Iranian airstrikes on bases across the Middle East since July 7, 2026. Chief Pentagon spokesperson Sean Parnell told CBS News that 96% of those wounded have returned to duty, noting that most injuries were minor concussions.

The incidents come amid rising tensions after a cease-fire between the United States and Iran collapsed, prompting nightly U.S. strikes on Iranian targets and reciprocal attacks on U.S. assets in Jordan, Kuwait, Bahrain and other allied locations. CBS News reported that several service members were injured on Jordanian military installations last week.

The Defense Department also announced the deaths of two soldiers on a Jordanian base and the discovery of unidentified remains linked to a third missing service member. A separate fatality occurred in Iraq during a controlled detonation of unexploded ordnance from a downed Iranian attack drone.

The Defense Casualty Analysis System lists 413 service members wounded in action since the conflict began, not counting the latest injuries, and records 14 American fatalities to date.

"Every time Iran kills an American Soldier they will pay for that killing many times over!" President Donald Trump wrote on his social-media platform, saying the directive had been passed to Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and senior military leaders.
