Logano Wins Revived North Wilkesboro Cup Race as NASCAR Highlights Religious Themes
Joey Logano captured his first Cup Series victory in more than a year at the newly reinstated North Wilkesboro Speedway, while the weekend featured a Truck Series event with overt religious branding and a win by Brexton Busch.
Joey Logano secured his first NASCAR Cup Series win in over a year Sunday night at the revived North Wilkesboro Speedway, leading 323 of the 450 laps and holding off Denny Hamlin at the finish. The race marked the track's return to the Cup schedule after a 30-year hiatus and featured a relatively small lead-lap field, with six cars finishing on the lead lap.
The weekend also included the NASCAR Truck Series race titled the "FaithFest 250," which displayed religious messaging on track signage. Brexton Busch, son of the late Kyle Busch, won the Truck race, his first victory since his father's death in May. Busch’s win was noted by his sister Samantha on social media, who posted a video of his celebratory bow.
The revival of North Wilkesboro drew a sizable crowd, and organizers highlighted the event as a nod to NASCAR’s historical roots, featuring traditional track elements such as manual scoring pylons and classic signage.
"I want to proclaim Jesus Christ is Lord to the glory of God," a statement made during the pre-race invocation was reported by event officials.
The weekend’s programming combined competitive racing with overt religious references, drawing mixed reactions from fans and commentators.
