The city manager of Sausalito was taken into custody on Saturday on suspicion of criminal activity, days after the city council authorized a leave of absence.
Sausalito officials said the city’s manager was arrested early Saturday morning on suspicion of criminal charges. The arrest occurred within city limits and is being investigated by the Marin County Sheriff’s Office, which has not yet released details.
Elaine Forbes, who was unanimously appointed on May 5 and assumed the role on July 1, was previously director of the Port of San Francisco from 2016 until December 2025. The city council had approved a leave of absence for her during a closed session on Thursday.
The city declined to comment on the allegations while the investigation continues.
