Andrew and Tristan Tate arrested in Miami as UK seeks extradition on new rape and trafficking charges

Summary

British prosecutors have added 38 new charges of rape, sex trafficking and assault against the Tate brothers, who were detained in Miami on a sealed U.S. warrant, and are requesting their extradition to the United Kingdom.

British authorities have added 38 new charges of rape, sex trafficking and assault against influencer brothers Andrew and Tristan Tate, leading to their arrest in Miami on Saturday on a sealed warrant, U.S. Marshals said. The brothers, who hold dual U.S. and U.K. citizenship, are expected to be extradited to face the allegations in the United Kingdom.

The Crown Prosecution Service announced that Andrew Tate, 39, faces seven counts of rape, three counts of arranging or facilitating sexual exploitation, three counts of assault and 19 offences related to indecent images of a child and extreme pornography. Tristan Tate, 38, is charged with one count of sexual assault, two counts of rape and three counts of arranging or facilitating sex trafficking.

"We have decided to prosecute Andrew and Tristan Tate for further offences including rape, arranging or facilitating trafficking for sexual exploitation and offences relating to indecent images of a child," the CPS said in a statement.

The brothers already face multiple investigations in the United Kingdom and Romania, where they were arrested in 2022 on accusations of luring women for sexual exploitation. Those Romanian proceedings have stalled due to procedural issues. They are also under investigation for alleged tax evasion and money laundering in the United Kingdom.

Their lawyer, Joseph McBride, maintains their innocence and expressed confidence that a U.S. judge will release them.

"We are confident that once a competent judge sees the facts, and once the Department of Justice confronts this egregious abuse of its own authority, Andrew and Tristan Tate will walk free," McBride said.

The CPS has formally requested extradition, citing new evidence from Bedfordshire police that increases the number of alleged victims to seven. The brothers traveled to Florida in February 2025 after Romanian travel restrictions were lifted.

The extradition request now moves to U.S. courts, where a decision will determine whether the Tate brothers will be transferred to the United Kingdom to face the newly filed charges.
