UFC President Confirms Conor McGregor Sustained ACL Injury at UFC 329
Dana White said McGregor suffered a torn ACL in his loss to Max Holloway and will require surgery and rehabilitation before returning to competition.
UFC president Dana White announced that Conor McGregor incurred an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury during his defeat to Max Holloway at UFC 329. White told reporters after a subsequent UFC Fight Night that the injury will necessitate surgery and a period of physical therapy before McGregor can resume full-intensity training.
White added that the fighter’s future in the sport will depend on medical clearance and his personal readiness, noting that McGregor will need to address both physical recovery and mental preparation before considering a return to either boxing or mixed-martial-arts competition.
McGregor had attempted a flying kick early in the UFC 329 bout, landed awkwardly, and appeared to lose stability in his right knee before the referee stopped the fight. The 38-year-old former champion later posted on social media that he felt physically prepared for the fight and did not carry an injury into the contest, but subsequently confirmed plans for surgery and expressed a desire to fight again.
The UFC will evaluate McGregor’s condition and marketability before scheduling any future matches, as his recent record includes four losses in his last five fights and two recent injuries that ended his previous outings.
