Caitlin Clark Faces $1,000 WNBA Fine After Sixth Technical Foul
Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark received her sixth technical foul, triggering a $1,000 fine and bringing her close to an automatic suspension under league rules.
Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark was assessed her sixth technical foul of the season less than two minutes into Saturday's game against the New York Liberty, resulting in a $1,000 fine from the WNBA. The foul was called after Clark made contact with Liberty center Jonquel Jones while contesting a screen involving Marine Johannes, who subsequently hit a three-pointer. The broadcast described the play as a legal screen, noting that Jones had established position before Clark arrived.
Despite the early foul, the Fever defeated the Liberty 108-88. Clark finished with 17 points on 5-of-14 shooting, along with seven assists and seven turnovers, while teammate Kelsey Mitchell led all scorers with 33 points on 10-of-14 shooting.
Under league policy, a seventh technical foul would incur another $1,000 fine, and an eighth would trigger an automatic one-game suspension and a $1,500 fine. Clark now shares the second-most technical fouls in the league with Phoenix Mercury forward Kahleah Copper; only Angel Reese has more, with seven.
"If Clark picks up another tech, it will be one more $1,000 fine. If she picks up her eighth tech, she will be automatically suspended one game by the WNBA, in addition to a $1,500 fine," the league's disciplinary guidelines state.
