Rosie O'Donnell attributes long-running feud with Donald Trump to shared New York upbringing

Summary

Rosie O'Donnell said her decades-long antagonism toward President Donald Trump stems partly from both being raised in New York, describing how she believes she triggers a strong reaction in him.

Rosie O'Donnell told Variety that her 20-year feud with President Donald Trump is partly rooted in their common New York background. The comedian said she grew up in the same area as Trump and believes her confrontational style reminds him of childhood challenges, which she described as provoking a "PTSD response" to his early failures.

O'Donnell elaborated on a recent podcast with Sophia Bush, noting that Trump’s attitude toward her reflects his upbringing among “tough, probably gay Irish girls” who did not tolerate what she called “stupid rich boy wannabes.” She recalled confronting Trump on the television program "The View" during their school-age years, saying she told him to "shut the hell up" and that he never recovered from the exchange.

The rivalry dates back to 2006, when O'Donnell, then a co-host of "The View," criticized Trump for his lenient stance toward a Miss USA contestant accused of drug use. Trump responded by calling O'Donnell a "real loser" and a "woman out of control." The two have exchanged barbs repeatedly over the years.

O'Donnell has publicly acknowledged her difficulty in disengaging from commentary about Trump. She told The Washington Post that a promise to her therapist to refrain from posting about him lasted only a few hours, and a later pledge on Instagram to stay silent for three days was also broken.

Fox News Digital has sought comment from the White House regarding O'Donnell's recent remarks.
