Trump Media weighs monthly fee for early access to presidential posts
Trump Media and Technology Group is reportedly discussing fees of up to $100,000 a month for priority access to the president's Truth Social posts, prompting criticism from ethics experts and lawmakers.
Trump Media and Technology Group, the owner of the Truth Social platform, is said to be considering a subscription model that would charge financial traders up to $100,000 per month for priority access to President Donald Trump's posts, with a lower tier of $60,000 per month for three-year commitments. Reuters and the Financial Times reported the proposal, noting that the fee would apply to firms seeking early insight into statements that can move markets.
Economists have long observed that the president's social-media remarks can influence global financial conditions, such as tariffs or geopolitical tensions. Critics argue that monetising that influence raises ethical concerns and could limit transparency.
"He’s selling expedited, privileged access to information about what he is doing as president," said Kathleen Clark, a conflict-of-interest expert at Washington University School of Law.
"It’s yet more brazen corruption, an improper exploitation of government power to enrich himself," Clark added in an interview with the Associated Press.
Democratic lawmakers also voiced opposition. Senator Ron Wyden warned that the plan would "make Wall Street traders rich" alongside the Trump family. The company announced a paid data service called “Truth API,” which would provide licensed feeds from the ten most influential accounts on the platform, with Trump's account being the most prominent.
