Six MLB clubs identified as likely sellers ahead of Aug. 3 trade deadline

Summary

Analysts say the Cincinnati Reds, Colorado Rockies, Kansas City Royals, Los Angeles Angels, New York Mets and San Francisco Giants are the most probable sellers as the trade deadline approaches, while several other teams could become sellers if their performance declines.

With just over two weeks left before the August 3 trade deadline, six Major League Baseball clubs are viewed as the most likely to trade away players. The Cincinnati Reds, Colorado Rockies, Kansas City Royals, Los Angeles Angels, New York Mets and San Francisco Giants are expected to be sellers, while a handful of other clubs could join that group if they falter in the coming weeks.

The Mets, sitting at 41-57, are considered the most active potential seller. Aside from a few young prospects and outfielder Juan Soto, most of their roster—including starters Nolan McLean and Christian Scott, as well as key position players such as Francisco Lindor, Bo Bichette and several relievers—could be on the market.

The Angels, now under interim general manager John Mozeliak, may look to move controllable arms José Soriano and Reid Detmers and outfielder Jo Adell. Mozeliak’s mandate is to acquire prospects in exchange for veteran talent, a strategy similar to the Chicago White Sox’s recent deal.

San Francisco’s likely trade pieces include left-hander Robbie Ray, second baseman Luis Arraez, right-hander Tyler Mahle and bullpen arms Erik Miller and JT Brubaker. Core veterans like Rafael Devers, Matt Chapman and Willy Adames are expected to remain.

Cincinnati could trade right-handed power hitters such as Spencer Steer and Eugenio Suárez, catcher Tyler Stephenson, and possibly veteran starter Brady Singer. Rumors persist about ace Hunter Greene, though no confirmation has been given.

Kansas City, at 38-59, is expected to move All-Star right-hander Michael Wacha, veteran Seth Lugo, outfielder Lane Thomas and several relievers as the club seeks to rebuild.

Colorado’s options are limited, with backend starters Kyle Freeland, Ryan Feltner and Michael Lorenzen, plus relievers Antonio Senzatela, Juan Mejia and others, forming the bulk of potential trade assets.

Analysts also note that the Oakland Athletics, Arizona Diamondbacks, Baltimore Orioles, Detroit Tigers, San Diego Padres, Toronto Blue Jays and Washington Nationals could become sellers if their postseason chances diminish, though each situation carries its own uncertainties.
