Prime Video recasts Kratos role in 'God of War' series after lead actor injury
Prime Video will replace Ryan Hurst as Kratos in its upcoming 'God of War' series following an on-set injury, with production slated to resume by mid-fall.
Prime Video announced that the lead role of Kratos in its upcoming adaptation of the PlayStation franchise will be recast after actor Ryan Hurst suffered an injury on set. Hurst, who had been featured in a first-look release in February and previously voiced Thor in the game "God of War: Ragnarok," will be replaced, and scenes involving the character will need to be reshot. The series, a Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM co-production, will continue with Callum Vinson returning as Atreus, Kratos' son, alongside a supporting cast that includes Max Parker, Ólafur Darri Ólafsson, Mandy Patinkin, Alastair Duncan, Danny Woodburn, Jeff Gulka and Ed Skrein. Production is expected to get back on schedule by mid-fall.
The show follows the narrative of the two most recent games, focusing on Kratos and Atreus' journey to scatter the ashes of their late wife and mother, Faye, while navigating the Norse pantheon. Ronald D. Moore serves as writer, executive producer and showrunner, with Frederick E.O. Toye directing the first two episodes. The series has received a two-season order from Amazon.
"Kratos is Spartan by birth, and a god by nature. Raised in a martial culture, he rose to command armies in service of his homeland until one day he made a fateful deal with Ares, the Greek God of War and lost his soul in exchange for being victorious in battle," the official character description reads.
