Savannah Guthrie to step away from "Today" for several weeks to film Wordle game show
NBC’s Savannah Guthrie will be absent from the "Today" program for a few weeks to film the upcoming Wordle game show, which is slated to debut in 2027.
Savannah Guthrie told her co-hosts on Thursday that she will be away from the "Today" show for the next few weeks to film the new Wordle game show. The journalist said the entire season will be shot during that period and expressed anticipation for its release.
The Wordle series, based on the New York Times puzzle, will be hosted by Guthrie and executive-produced by Jimmy Fallon. Fallon said the producers were looking for a host who is familiar with the game and praised Guthrie’s performance in the pilot.
The show is expected to premiere in 2027. Guthrie previously took a brief leave from "Today" in March to spend time with family amid the ongoing investigation into her mother Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance.
NBC staff were reportedly instructed to treat Guthrie’s return as routine, with producers emphasizing a "move forward" approach.
